Work in process
Because Every Story Is Still Being Written
and We’re All A Work In Process
Today’s students are navigating extraordinary challenges. Studies show that over 44% of students report persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness, with 22% having seriously considered suicide.
At Fellowship Hi-Crest, we believe that emotional, mental, and spiritual health are deeply interconnected and essential for the success and flourishing of every student.
Work In Process was born from a simple but powerful idea:
What if students could be equipped to choose a better day — mentally, emotionally, and behaviorally — starting right now?
Through music, storytelling, movement, and proven therapeutic tools, Work In Process helps young people recognize their feelings, build coping skills, and access the support they need.
How It Started
In 2024, Fellowship Hi-Crest partnered with Worship and Student Ministries Pastor Brail Watson to release the Work In Process Album, a 9-song project blending honest storytelling and mental health education.
The album tackled topics like childhood trauma, the stigma around mental health medication, isolation, and healing — offering teens hope through real conversations and relatable music.
Nearly 200 individuals attended the first Work In Process Concert, with 56% of the attendees taking home resources or signing up to take the next step in their mental health journey with licensed professionals and local organizations.
The album’s success sparked something bigger: with grant funding secured in 2025, Work In Process evolved into a year-round student mental health program.
What the Program Looks Like Today
Today, Work In Process offers students a full range of supportive experiences:
Live music performances on campus blended with personal stories, engaging students in coping strategies, movement exercises, and mental health conversations.
Students and teachers are equipped with techniques by combining evidence-based therapeutic approaches with live Urban Music to walk with your community toward mental health.
- MNRI (Masgutova Neurosensorimotor Reflex Integration) for physical regulation
- Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) for co-regulation and trauma-sensitive care
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) strategies for stress awareness and emotional management
- Work In Process event attendees will receive a Work In Process resource bag. This includes:
- Digital access to the Work In Process album and accompanying video series.
- A Work In Process album booklet crafted by a mental health team to assist in implementing techniques from the concerts. In the back will be a dossier of mental health resources.
- Students are introduced to programs like CURRENT, Creative Expressions, and Bridge Builder’s Investment Club for ongoing community, mentorship, and leadership development.
Who's it for?
- Students in 6th-12th grade
- Youth and parents struggling with stress, isolation, anxiety, trauma, or emotional regulation
- Teachers and mentors seeking tools to better support students inside and outside the classroom
Whether a student is facing serious challenges or simply wants to grow in resilience, Work In Process meets them where they are.
Our hope is that students leave Work In Process not only more equipped —
but more connected, seen, and hopeful.
