AMERICAN RED CROSS – SICKLE CELL BLOOD DRIVE

Currently, only 3% of our donor base nationwide is African American. We are committed to having a more diverse blood supply and to tripling the amount of African American blood donors within the next few years. Studies have shown that sickle cell patients show more improvements when their frequent blood transfusions (up to 100 per year!) come from donors of African descent as opposed to other ethnic backgrounds.

American Red Cross has an upcoming sickle cell blood drive on Thursday, February 23 from 1 to 6 pm at the Hillcrest Community Center down on 21st Street. Appointments made in advance are highly recommended. Walk-ins are welcome.

Reach out to the American Red Cross for additional information.
